BENGALURU: Even as AICC general secretary in-charge of  state K.C. Venugopal raised reservations   about a hike in fuel prices proposed in the budget, Janata Dal (S) patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda and his son and CM H.D.

Kumaraswamy, launched a damage-control exercise through full-page advertisements in vernacular newspapers, explaining the benefits of  loan waiver to farmers. Mr Venugopal reportedly expressed displeasure over the proposal to hike prices of petroleum products without consulting the coalition partner. He reportedly told party leaders that he would raise the issue with the coalition partner. Sources in the party said during closed-door meetings, both Mr Gowda and Mr Kumaraswamy expressed displeasure over the stand taken by Congress legislators and the media for launching a negative campaign against the budget.

Both observed that why did Congress leaders did not raise objection when former CM Siddaramaiah, waived farm loans last year? They reportedly felt that the legislators and the media which had praised Mr Siddaramaiah then, seems to be attacking Mr Kumaraswamy without any reason.  Apparently, the leaders felt that some vested interests were behind instigating many farmers leaders to issue statements against loan waiver. As part of the damage control exercise,  JD (S) had issued full-page advertisement in leading vernacular newspapers explaining the nature of farm loan waiver and how it would help the farmers.
