Bengaluru: At the onset, we must say nobody can spew venom like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress do, especially their social media handles which are minefields of hatred, lies and allegations. If tech-savvy people of the nation want to check the social media accounts of both the parties to know and understand their vision and plans.

Especially for poll-bound Karnataka, our advice would be better skip the exercise. The elections to the 224-member Assembly in Karnataka are scheduled on May 12. The results will be declared on May 15. In the wake of the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, if netas (politicians) at public rallies are at their "devilish" best throwing muck at each other, social media accounts of both the BJP and Congress are one step ahead. Online or offline, nobody is talking about vikas (as Prime Minister Narendra Modi likes to call development), lack of jobs, crime against women and rising fuel prices, to name a few problems. Even passing references to the issues are done with an idea to attack their opponents, but not to address the problems of the people. From PM Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi to chief minister Siddaramaiah all are busy attacking each other in the most brutal way as the characters of popular television drama series, Game of Thrones, do.

Here we are making a reference to the insanely-popular English drama as the BJP's social media cell seems to be smitten by Game of Thrones and they have this bizarre idea that Karnataka is some Winterfell and Ned Stark will come alive one day. Best of luck to the BJP social media managers! Best of luck to Congress social media managers! The kind of hatred, bigotry and violence they are spreading, we are sure Karnataka and the nation will take a while to overcome such spiteful messages. Below are a few examples of what the BJP and the Congress are tweeting, these days: There are hundreds of such tweets laced with accusations and counter-accusations from both the parties and their leaders. Once again, we would suggest you not to go through them to keep your mental balance intact. As far as journalists are concerned, it's an occupational hazard, we have to bear politicians and their stooges by biting our lips in silence.
