Chief Minister Siddaramaiah faced an embarrassing moment during a campaign rally in Chamundeshwari constituency when a Dalit Gram Panchayat member Mariswamy, said he would not vote for Siddaramaiah. Siddaramaiah was campaigning in Halekesare village when Gram Panchayat member Mariswamy embarrassed Siddaramaiah by saying expressing his displeasure for his anti-Dalit moves.

Mariswamy, who was standing in the crowd, said, "I will not vote for you. I will vote for only JD (S)." Siddaramaiah identified his old associate and called him for a talk. Siddaramaiah replied, "Mariswamy, you don't have to join the Congress, but vote for me." Mariswamy said, "I will vote only for JD (S)." Again, Siddaramaiah replied, "Mariswamy, BJP and JDS are two faces of the same coin. Don't vote for JDS".  According to reports, Mariswamy is said to be an old friend of Siddaramaiah. Mariswamy told a private television that Siddaramaiah is known as an anti-Dalit leader. "Everybody knows, he schemed against G Parameshwara in Koratgere. Also, he ensured  the defeat of another Dalit leader Srinivas Prasad." "He (Siddaramaiah) did not allow Dalit to become CM or deputy CM in his Cabinet," Mariswamy said. Mariswamy said, "JDS leader GT Deve Gowda should win this election, and should become in-charge minister of Chamundeshwari."
