H C Mahadevappa after inaugurating "Pavitra Buddha Jayanthi" programme organised by the DK District Budda Maha Sabha, termed that visionaries like Gautama Buddha, Basavanna and Dr. B R Ambedkar were the democrats who emphasised on a democratic setup in the society. Consciousness and kindness are two strong pillars of Buddhism, he added. Democracy is the system to protect the weaker sections from the suppression by stronger sections. The aim of democracy is to prevent communal forces or fundamentalists from coming to power.

If the fascists or fanatics comes to power, it will crush the weaker sections and destroy democracy. Dr. Ambedkar too, as a labour commission member, supported the war against Nazis and fascists. Buddha's teachings were against the superstitious beliefs and preached that love and equality were the essence of better life.

He was against autocracy. Buddha transformed the minds of people with truth. Communalism and fundamentalism will harm the democracy. People of Dakshina Kannada should protect the democracy suppressing the communal and fundamentalist forces, he said.

Speaking to media questions, Mahadevappa expressed joy over the state government completing 4 years. "As assured in the manifesto, the government fulfilled the promises made with the people. In the coming one year we will actively work for more development", he said.

On KPCC presidential position he said that party high command will chose an eligible person democratically. He also clarified that he was not an aspirant for the position.
