Tipu Sultan convention to be held on May 4

Mysuru: Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike and Progressive associations of Mysuru are organising a convention to remember Tipu Sultan on May 4.

Addressing media persons at Press Club here on Tuesday, K L Ashok, General Secretary of KKSV said, "Tipu Sultan was a progressive ruler who had taken up land reforms and other initiatives for the welfare of the poor irrespective of any community or caste.

Apart from this, he was the first person from the state to sacrifice his life for the freedom of the nation. Though his contribution is immense for the welfare of the people, especially the poor but still some vested interests are projecting him in a different way. During the one day convention, the historians will speak about his contribution to the people and his administrative skills."

On May 4, before starting the convention at Exhibition ground, the event will be symbolically inaugurated at Srirangapatna where Tipu breathed his last. On the occasion, freedom fighter H S Doreswamy will be felicitated. K S Puttannaiah, Guruprasad Keregodu, Radha Sundaresh of Indian Communist party and Sujay will take part in the programme.

Former minister B T Lalita Nayak will inaugurate the rally by garlanding the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at Town Hall at 10.30 am. Later through procession, the participants will go to Exhibition Ground.
