Coming February 14 and Namma Metro is all set to give Bengalureans their Valentine's Day gift. The first train with six coaches, as against the current three-coach trains, will be launched on Valentine's Day on the Purple Line of Namma Metro.

Bengaluru In-charge minister K J George took to Twitter to make the announcement. One train with six-coaches, effectively doubling the current carrying capacity of commuters, will run on the Purple Line to ease congestion from Kempegowda Station (Majestic) to Baiyappanahalli station. The first coach in this train will be reserved for women commuters- a first for the Bengaluru metro.

The Bengaluru Metro currently plies on Purple and Green lines with 3-coach trains. Demand for an increase in the number of coaches or in the frequency of trains had been mounting on the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). The current 3-car trains consist of Driving Motor Car (DMC) Trailer Car (TC) another DMC. The BMRCL is now adding 2 DMC 1 Trailer Car to achieve 66 per cent motorisation to negotiate sharp and vertical curves of the alignment.

K J George added that 63 coaches are expected to be deployed on the Purple Line once all trains are converted into 6-coach trains. This expansion will include the routes from Challaghatta to Whitefield. 87 coaches will be added on the Green Line including extensions from BIEC to Anjanapura owing to the longer length of the line.
