Though pro-Kannada organisations have called for a bundh on January 25 with regard to Mahadayi issue, places like Koppal, Vijayapura and Mangaluru ceased to be a part of the bundh and moved on with the routine.

Shops, schools and colleges opened up at the usual time on Thursday in Dakshina Kannada district. Buses- both private and public transports were available and no commuters were put to trouble. The vendors and traders had come back to their business and at certain places, the traders had even put up a message outside stating that they are not for the bundh call. However, the local Karnataka Rakshana Vedike unit has planned a 'rail roko' in the city at 11 am.

Similar situation prevailed in Koppal as well, where no signs of the bundh were visible. It was due to people voluntarily remaining indoors that the number of people plying in buses and number of vehicles on road were on the lesser side. The district administration had not declared holiday and hence schools and colleges opened on Thursday morning.Border region of Vijayapura too remained away from the bundh. The traders and vendors said that they cannot be a part of such frequent bundhs as it would affect their livelihood in a very big way.

Bengaluru and other districts of the state witnessed total bundh. The BMTC and KSRTC buses remained off road leaving people in dire straits. The capital city has come to a standstill with almost all the commercial establishments, cinema theatres, hotels, schools, colleges and offices remaining closed.Hubballi witnessed outstanding response to the bundh. Some protesters even went to the extent of staging a mock funeral for the Prime Minister and shouted slogans against the BJP at the centre for its failure to solve Mahadayi issue.

Vatal Nagaraj thanks people : Kannada Okkuta President Vatal Nagaraj, who took stock of the situation in Bengaluru on Thursday thanked the people of the state for standing by him and his organisation and supporting the bundh. He urged the people to observe peaceful bundh till Thursday evening.
