First time,water level at KRS dam crosses 100 feet mark

For the first time in two years, the water level at the Krishnaraja Sagar dam (KRS) has crossed the 100-feet mark. While the news brings cheer to many districts which heavily depend on the KRS, experts believe that the dam is unlikely to reach full capacity of 124.8 feet.

As on October 4, 2017, water level at the KRS dam, lifeline for many districts in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu stood at 109.90 feet as against a maximum limit of 124.8 feet. The live storage capacity as on the said date was at 27.22 TMC as against the maximum capacity of 45.05 TMC. The numbers are far better than last year when the live storage capacity on the same day was a mere 11.13 TMC.

Heavy rains in the catchments areas have filled up the dams but experts believe that the dam is unlikely to reach full capacity given that the monsoon season is about to end. The KRS dam had last reached its full capacity in 2013 and in 2015 it had reached the 110-ft mark.The water levels at Harangi dam stood at 2857.69 feet as against the maximum capacity of 2859 ft as on Wednesday.
