ACB tells HC : B S Yeddyurappa Won't be arrested till next hearing

The Anti Corruption Bureau on Wednesday told the Karnataka High Court that B S Yeddyurappa will not be arrested in an alleged denotification case till the next hearing on August 28.

The High Court was hearing a petition by B S Yeddyurappa seeking to quash summons issued by the ACB in a Rs 3,800 crore denotification case. The ACB has assured the court that the BJP chief will not be arrested till the next date of hearing if that is his prime concern.

ACB summons asking B S Yeddyurappa to appear before officials on Thursday has been withdrawn. Yeddyurappa need not appear for questioning in the case until further hearing on his petition. B S Yeddyurappa had moved High Court to quash ACB summons on Saturday. He has been made accused no 1 in two cases of alleged denotification on the basis of an activist's complaint.

The ACB FIR accuses B S Yeddyurappa of denotifying land acquired for Shivaram Karanth layout by the BDA. The complainant alleged that the illegal denotification had caused losses of Rs 3,800 crore to the BDA. The BJP has, however, accused the Congress government of misusing government agencies for political vengeance and have sought the Governor's intervention.
