Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has banned entry for tourists at the beaches here till the end of August. The decision was taken in the backdrop of two drowning incidents reported from the city in two weeks.

The tourists who arrive here in large numbers during the monsoons tend to ignore the hoardings put up at the beaches warning them not to venture into the sea beyond the danger zone and also turn a deaf ear to the life guards, said K G Jagadeesha, Deputy Commissioner adding that the restrictions do not apply to local fishermen.

Further, he added that additional guards had been deployed at all the beaches and if any person was caught violating the ban orders, they would be booked immediately.

It may be recalled that two youths, natives of Tumkaru who were in the city to visit the Ullal shrine had drowned in the beach at Mogaveerapatna here. Their bodies were recovered the next day from different places.
