Fishing along DK district coast to be banned from June 1 to July 31

Mangaluru: Karnataka Department of Fisheries has announced a ban on fishing using mechanised boats and traditional boats with inboard/ outboard engines of more than 10HP capacity for 61 days from June 1 to July 31 in Coastal Karnataka.

The office of the Deputy Director, Department of Fisheries, Dakshina Kannada has issued a circular as per provisions of Karnataka Marine Fishing (Regulation) Act, 1986.

As per the circular, fishing in the sea using fishing nets/ other equipment in all types of mechanized boats and traditional boats with inboard/ outboard engines above 10HP capacity has been banned from June 1 to July 31 along Dakshina Kannada district coast. The official said that traditional fishing boats with inboard/ outboard engines below 10HP capacity are allowed to venture into sea during the ban period.

He further added that those fishermen who violate the ban order will be booked under the provisions of the Karnataka Marine Fishing (regulation) Act and lose their eligibility to avail diesel on subsidised rates and will not receive any compensation for accidents that may occur.
