Mysuru: ‘I don’t want free rice but I want free medical treatment for my husband who is admitted at Jayadeva Hospital for heart related problems. Please get my BPL card renewed.” This was the plea from 55-year-old Mallika to government officials including Food and Civil Supply department to get her BPL card renewed so that her husband gets heart tr

The hospital members, after getting the patient admitted, went through the BPL card and came to know that it was blocked. The doctors and staff members informed Mallika that her BPL card was blocked and free treatment could not be provided. If at all, the treatment has to be done, immediately the card should be renewed, they added.

Immediately, Mallikha who was alone with her husband went to Hunsur Taluk Food and Civil supplies department and pleaded for renewal of her BPL card. The authorities there said that it would take atleast two to three months to get it renewed.

The officials had brought all the required materials including laptop to the hospital. But they couldn’t renew the card after getting her Aadhar card linked and hence they applied for a new card. The authorities managed to provide a temporary BPL card to facilitate free treatment.

Dr. Sadanand, Director of Jayadeva Hospital said, “The patient was suffering from 90 percent blockage in the part of the heart and required surgical care immediately. But unfortunately, the BPL card was locked due to non-linkage of Aadhar card.

We told the patient's family members to make arrangement to renew the card so that they could take up the treatment including angioplasty immediately. The officials came to the hospital and managed to get all the details for renovation of the card.

The renovation process for the card was started and we started treatment for the patient. On Monday, we conducted angiogram and on Tuesday we conducted angioplasty and put a stent. He is out of danger now.”

An elated Mallikha said, “I want to thank Hunsur Tahsildar and Rameshwarappa for their effort in providing us the much needed BPL card for medical treatment. With their efforts, they have saved my husband.”
