Kannada playback singer L N Shastry passed away

Bengaluru: Acclaimed Sandalwood playback singer L N Shastry passed away here on August 30 after battling with intestinal cancer for months.He was suffering from cancer which was at the fourth stage.

Shastry who has crooned many hit songs like Kolu Mande Jangama Deva, Karunaade Kaaye Chahide Node and more than 3000 songs. He won the state film award for playback singing for the cult song Kolumande Jangamadevaru for the film Janumada Jodi in the year 1996.

His renditions for films in Kaurava (Ilkal Seere, Hudgirandre), A (Helkolak Ondooru) went on to establish him as one of the best singers in the industry. After composing music for 26 films with the name Chaitanya, (that includes Ravi Maama, Aunty Preetse and Haalu Sakkare), Vishnuvardhan forced him to use his original name in Bellary Naga (2009), his last release as a composer.
