Belthangady: A youth from Bengaluru washed away by strong river current is suspected to have died at Dharmasthala on Sunday, July 9.Harish (25), resident of Hegganahalli in Bengaluru is the deceased.

Harish on a pilgrimage along with friends visited temple towns of Horanadu and Sringeri before reaching Dharmasthala. Ignoring the warning signs displayed at several places along the river stretch and the public address systems announcement, a team of youth including Harish ventured into water at a place not meant to take bath during this part of the year.

Harish was washed away by strong river currents near the old bridge area. Efforts by local expert swimmers to trace the body went in vain. Fire force personnel pressed into service to retrieve the body too failed in their attempt. Dharmasthala police have registered a case into the incident.
