Inter-religious marriage: Pregnant woman burnt alive in Vijayapura

A pregnant woman was brutally murdered by stabbing and setting her on fire for allegedly marrying a person from another religion. The incident had been reported from Gundakanal village of Muddebihal taluk of Vijayapura district.

According to the Muddebihal police who are investigating the incident Banu Begam (2) from a local Muslim family recently married Sayabanna Konnur, a youth from Valmiki (ST) community and eloped to Goa. Last week she returned to the village. She was pregnant.

On Sunday evening, her family members including mother Ramzan B Attar, two sisters, brother and brother in -law allegedly barged inside the house where Banu Begam was residing with her husband Sayabanna Konnur.

"First they poured kerosene on the couple and set them on fire. Later Banu Begam was stabbed with lethal weapons. She died on spot while her husband is fighting for life with serious injuries at the hospital," said police.
