Digital wallet company Paytm introduced two new features to its services on Monday: While the first one, called Paytm Postcard, allows you to send money as gift with custom messages, the other one lets you send money directly from your phonebook. Postcard is available for both iOS and Android, and the second feature is currently only for Android.

Another feature, currently available only for Android users, allows you to “automatically add money to wallet.” This feature is expected to be available for iOS users by the end of next week.

To send a Postcard through Paytm, Select the “Postcard” in the Paytm home screen. Enter the contact number of the person you want to send the Postcard. Add the amount along with a message. Paytm also gives the option to choose the occasion theme. The list of themes include Birthday, Rakhi, Thank You and Lucky You among others.

“This facility can be used to send money to virtually anyone with a smartphone and the Paytm app at zero extra fee and the money can then be used to pay for a variety of online and offline transactions,” explains Paytm on its website.

The Postcard receiver will get both a push notification and an SMS. The money gets added to the wallet once the e-gift is opened. You can also keep track of all the sent and received postcards under ‘My Postcards’ section in the Paytm app.

Using phonebook to send money via Paytm : To use this feature, you need to have the updated Paytm. Go to Google Play Store. Search the Paytm app and tap the update icon. At the time of writing this story, the feature hasn’t arrived (We checked on a Lenovo K3 Note). Nonetheless, if you have the updated Paytm, open the Contacts list on your smartphone. Choose the contact name and then tap on ‘Send Money’. Enter the amount and hit the send button.
