India’s opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan continued his domination of the Sri Lankan attack with his second hundred of the series, taking just 107 balls to reach the three-figure mark on the opening day of the third Test at the Pallekele International Stadium. It is his sixth Test hundred.

The left-handed batsman started with a streaky four, but then hardly put a foot wrong. Dhawan took a special liking to new-ball bowler Lahiru Kumara, thumping him for two fours off the backfoot and forcing the Sri Lankan captain to take him off after three overs with the new ball.

On Saturday, during the partnership of 188, Dhawan and KL Rahul (85) also bettered the record for the opening wicket in Sri Lanka against Sri Lanka.Dhawan was eventually dismissed by Malinda Pushpakumara for a score of 119.On the other hand, Rahul lost out on another chance to score a hundred after being well-set. He, however, equalled the world record for the most number of successive half-centuries.
