The Congress put out its final list of candidates for the Karnataka assembly elections. One major change that the Congress made was to the candidate from Madikeri. The party replaced H S Chandramouli with K Chandrakala. After the Congress announced Chandramouli's name, there were questions asked on the social media as to why the party has chosen Chandramouli an advocate who had defended Mehul Choksi. Following the uproar, the party high command decided to make the change.

Chandramouli sets the record straight on this and says that he had appeared for Gitanjali and not Choksi in an individual capacity. In the social media, I have been branded as Choksi's lawyer and this cost me my seat. When asked if he is upset with the party, Chandramouli says, "I am not upset with the party. I had given the party a letter to relieve me of my candidature. I do not want any embarrassment for the party. I will continue to work for the party", he also added. On the statements made by Congress media coordinator, Brijesh Kalappa who was denied a ticket from Madikeri, Chandramouli says that what was the need for those statements. He is a Supreme Court lawyer should know that refusal of a brief is against the Advocates' Act. I want to ask Kalappa would be refuse a brief if Choksi or a family member approaches him? Chandramouli also says that he has taken this decision in his stride and would look into the future. "For me my career as an advocate means a lot. I am ready to give up politics, but not my profession", he also says.
