Agartala : On Monday morning, voters queued outside polling stations to cast their votes once again during the repolling at six Assembly constituencies in Tripura. Earlier the Election Commission had ordered repolling at six booths in six Assembly constituencies in the northeastern state. The elections to the 60-member Assembly in Tripura got over on February 18.

Recently, the EC ordered repolling in one polling booth each in Sonamura, Teliamura, Sabroom, Ampinagar, Kadamtala-Kurti and Dhanpur Assembly constituencies. "#Tripura: Re-polling being held in Dhanpur, Sonamura, Teliamura, Kadamtala-Kurti, Ampinagar and Sabroom Assembly constituencies," tweeted ANI. "#Visuals from a polling booth in Tripura's Teliamura. Re-polling is being held in Dhanpur, Sonamura, Teliamura, Kadamtala-Kurti, Ampinagar and Sabroom Assembly constituencies," tweeted ANI.

The EC's decision drew sharp criticism from the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), which accused the state election department of failing to conduct a proper election and "criminal negligence". Polling for 59 of the 60 Assembly seats was held in the northeastern state on February 18. Polling was countermanded in the Charilam constituency due to the death of CPI(M) candidate Ramendra Narayan Debbarma ahead of the election. The Assembly polls are scheduled in two other northeastern states--Meghalaya and Nagaland--on Tuesday (February 27). The results of all the three Assembly elections will be declared on March 3.
