Will Modi campaign for BJP in Nagaland?

Kohima: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit poll-bound Tripura for the second time to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The PM attended election rallies in Tripura on February 8. The Assembly elections in Tripura are scheduled on February 18 (Sunday).

The two other northeastern states--Nagaland and Meghalaya--are also going to polls on February 27. While PM Modi visited Meghalaya in December last year as a part of poll campaign where he unveiled various developmental projects, he is yet to visit Nagaland. Now, reports say that the BJP unit of Nagaland wants the PM to campaign for the party in the state. The BJP's Nagaland unit has sent a list of star campaigners to its central office in the national capital.

Besides Modi, the list includes the names of party president Amit Shah, home minister Rajnath Singh, transport minister Nitin Gadkari, minister for information and broadcasting and textiles Smriti Irani, minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju and Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, The Telegraph reported. Recently, BJP national general secretary for organisation Ram Lal and Northeast organisation in-charge Ajay Jamwal were in Dimapur to take stock of poll preparedness. The BJP leaders also held a joint co-ordination meeting with pre-poll alliance partner Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). Now, it needs to be seen if PM Modi would honour the request of his party colleagues and campaign in Nagaland.
