Vijayakant made permanent DMDK general secretary

The executive and general council of the Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam (DMDK) has designated party founder Vijayakant as the permanent general secretary of the party and vested in him the full powers to take crucial decisions and appoint office-bearers to the party.

The resolution wase adopted unanimously at the executive and general council on Saturday.

Mr. Vijayakant was made permanent general secretary at a time when some of the party’s district units wanted his wife, the articulate Premalatha, to be designated general secretary. But she has not given any post.

In the in-camera deliberations, the executive and general council members also made Mr. Vijayakant’s relative L.K. Sudheesh and three others — former MLA B. Parthasarathy, Ilangovan and Savithri as deputy general secretaries, party sources said.
