BANASKANTA: Rahul Gandhi's convoy was attacked by BJP workers in Gujarat's Banaskantha, the Congress alleged today. "This is a dastardly attack. Do they think they can silence the opposition, they can cow down anybody with violence?" said the party's Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

The Congress said Mr Gandhi was surveying flood hit areas when his car was attacked with cement bricks.

"The car was damaged, a window was shattered, a security man was hurt," Mr Singhvi said.

Banaskantha, one of the areas in Gujarat worst affected by the flood, has six Congress lawmakers but they are at a resort in Bengaluru, away from the drama of Rajya Sabha polls.

The Congress flew 43 Gujarat lawmakers to Bengaluru last Friday to prevent more defections before the Rajya Sabha polls on Tuesday after six of its legislators quit.
