Lucknow : Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator Thakur Jaiveer Singh, who was a minister in the Mayawati government during her 2007-2012 reign, quit the party on Saturday and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Singh was member of the legislative council.

His nephew Upendra Singh 'Neetu', the district panchayat chief of Aligarh, also joined the saffron camp on Saturday. The desertion in BSP coincides with the resignation of three senior Samajwadi Party (SP) legislators earlier in the day. Reacting to the developments in his party, the former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav accused the BJP of indulging in "political corruption".

Talking to media, the former UP CM said, "I came to know about Bukkal Nawab's resignation. I met him recently and I know him for a long time. If he's not been shifted to somewhere by BJP, I will meet him. This is 'political corruption'. But if someone wants to leave, they can leave."
