Southwest monsoon has advanced into Karnataka, some parts of Tamil Nadu and other parts of coastal India, as pert India Meteorological Department (IMD)'s latest weather bulletin. With this, low to moderate rainfall can be expected in Bengaluru and other parts of interior Karnataka in the next 24 hours.

"Southwest monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of South Interior Karnataka, remaining parts of Tamilnadu & Puducherry, some parts of Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, remaining parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal and some more parts of Westcentral Bay of Bengal," the IMD's latst weather update said. "Conditions are becoming favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Karnataka and Rayalaseema, some parts of south Konkan & Goa, Telangana, some more parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Central Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours. Conditions are very likely to become favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana & Coastal Andhra Pradesh in subsequent 2-3 days," it further said.

A cyclonic circulation is forming over Konkan and Goa, and it will gradually move north along the Maharahstra coast, as per Skymet. Though the monsoon hit neighbouring Kerala on May 29 and was to enter Karnataka on June 1, it got delayed by three days due to other climatic conditions and changing weather patterns. The Met Office has issued heavy rainfall alerts in coastal and southern interior regions. Meteorological department officials say that pre-monsoon showers were in excess of about 40 per cent in the state this year. This has also brought cheers to farmers as early rains will keep the soil fertile for sowing operations and fodder for cattle.
