Hyderabad: The Telangana State government will set up special schools in the state for the rescued child labour. Based on this proposal from the state government, the Centre has directed state officials to conduct a survey on child labour and also school dropouts in the state and allotted Rs 4 lakh to each state for conducting the survey.

Speaking to this newspaper, principal secretary of labour department Shashank Goel said education and labour departments are conducting the survey separately on school dropouts and child labor respectively. In 2016-17, the labour department has conducted Opera-tion Muskaan across the state and rescued 880 children. According to the education department, there were 21,467 school drops in the state in 2016-17. The Child Labour Act prohibits all forms of child labor for children up to 14 years to be in tandem with the objectives of the Right to Education Act. After the completion of the survey, he said they will prepare a report on how many special schools are required in each district depending on number of child labour and school dropouts and the same would be shared with the Central government.
