‘Dolly Ki Doli’ is a 2015 Bollywood film in which a girl named Dolly, played by actor Sonam Kapoor, gets married in a typical Bollywood-style dream wedding. But the groom’s dreams are shattered when on the wedding night when he realises that Dolly has vanished, and so has all the money and jewellery in the house. Dolly then moves on to con another rich guy, becoming a famous ‘looteri dulhan’ (robber bride).

Movies inspired by real incidents are quite common, but many seem to be inspired by this particular movie in Rajasthan, where an increasing number of girls are being reported for running away with their in-laws’ money a few days after getting married. According to PTI, 103 such cases have been registered between 2014 and 2017 in Rajasthan, where girls get married, live with their in-laws for a few days, and eventually runs away with all the money.

According to the data released by the state's Home Department, during 2014 to 2017, multiple cases were registered in which middlemen and girls from outside the state run away with cash, jewellery and other valuables a few days after marriage. Of the 103 cases, police presented a chargesheet in 57 cases and probe was pending in 17 cases. A final police report has been filed in 29 cases, reported PTI. Nearly Rs 10 lakh was recovered out of over Rs 1.75 crore in the cases, the data reveals. Maximum cases were registered in Pali, Baran, Bundi, Jhalawar, Bhilawara and Jalore districts of the state. Well, so much for a dream wedding.
