Fodder scam: Lalu Prasad Yadav found guilty

In the third blow to the Yadav family on the same day, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad was on Wednesday found guilty in a fodder scam cases- Chaibasa Treasury case by a special CBI court.

Another former chief minister of Bihar, Jagannath Mishra, was also found guilty in the case by the special court. Quantum of sentence to be announced after 2 pm by Ranchi Court. The court pronounced its verdict in another fodder scam case on Wednesday in which 56 persons are accused, including Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and former Bihar chief minister Jagannath Mishra.

The fodder scam case, RC 68(A) / 1996 pertained to the fraudulent of ₹33.67 crore from Chaibasa (now in Jharkhand) district treasury during 1992-93.Reacting to the verdict, Lalu's son and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav said,"People know how BJP,RSS and more importantly Nitish Kumar have conspired against Lalu ji. We will approach higher courts against all these verdicts.''

Earlier, Prasad's first conviction in another case of the fodder scam on September 30, 2013, for five years had barred him from contesting elections for a period of six years. Later, he got bail from a higher court in the case. Currently, Lalu Yadav is in Birsa Munda Central Jail of Ranchi, as he was awarded a three-and-a-half-year sentence on January 6 this year in a fodder scam relating to fraudulent withdrawal from Deoghar treasury. The quantum of judgment was pronounced on January 6, 2018, in the case by the CBI special judge Shiv Pal Singh. Prasad has appealed to the Ranchi High Court against his conviction in the case.
