Family of Jind Rape and murder, Accused Allege Police Torture

The family of the deceased 19-year-old boy who was the prime accused in the rape and murder of a 15-year-old Dalit girl in Jind, Haryana has alleged that they were tortured by the police, according to ANI.

The boy’s brothers, father and uncle were detained and allegedly beaten up, with the police forcing their heads into ice and cold water after their hands were bound, and in one case even electrocuting their private parts of the report adds.The victim’s family had listed the boy’s name in the FIR that they had lodged with the police when the girl first disappeared on 9 January. As a result, he was considered the prime suspect in the case and his family members were detained.

Only after the police found the boy’s decomposed body in a nearby canal on Wednesday, did they release his family members so that they could attend the cremation. Her family reportedly visited the police station the same day and lodged a complaint. Her body was found a few days later near a canal in Jind. According to a postmortem report, she had been sexually assaulted by more than one person and gruesomely tortured, to the extent that her liver had been ruptured.
