A Bhiwandi court in Thane has set a new date for framing of charges against Congress president Rahul Gandhi in connection with a defamation case filed by an RSS functionary in 2014.

The court said that Congress president Rahul Gandhi needs to be present in court on April 23. The Congress president was supposed to be in court today. But he wasn't and the court allowed an exemption from court application presented by his lawyer.

The case dates back to March 2014 where Gandi during a rally in Thane made comments about the RSS and Gandhi, the 'Father of the Nation'. "RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people (BJP) talk of him...They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji," Rahul had said then. The case was filed against him by an RSS worker.
