Manmohan Singh launches scathing attack on Centre over demonetisation

A day before the BJP government's planned celebration of 'Anti-blackmoney Day', former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh launched a scathing attack on demonetisation.

Manmohan Singh is in Gujarat to address traders and businessmen of the state, which is just weeks away from voting for its next government. Manmohan Singh said," 8th November was a black day for our economy and indeed our democracy.Tomorrow we mark one year since the disastrous policy was thrust on the people of our country. " "Nowhere in the world has any nation taken such a drastic step that swept off 86% of the currency," he said.

Commenting on BJP's digital economy, he said, "to promote less cash economy coercive steps like demonetisation are ineffective." He reiterated that "I repeat what I said in the parliament, this was organised loot and legalized plunder." He further said that this twin (Demonetisation and GST) blow is a complete disaster for our economy, it has broken the back of our small businesses.
