GST collected Rs 92,150 crore in September, says Arun Jaitley

The Finance Ministry on Tuesday said that Rs 92,150 crore has been collected as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in September. The GST for the third month after its rollout was collected from 42.91 lakh businesses. In August, the government had collected Rs 90,669 crore in Goods and Services Tax (GST)

Of this, Rs 14,042 crore is on account of Central GST, while State GST is to the tune of Rs 21,172 crore. Integrated GST (IGST) collections stood at Rs 48,948 crore, of which Rs 23,951 crore was on account of imports, a PTI report said.

Out of Rs 48,948 crore IGST revenue, Rs 23,951 crore is from imports in September. Compensation Cess is Rs 7,988 crore out of which Rs 722 crore is Compensation Cess from imports in September, the ministry statement said.

The total number of taxpayers who were supposed to file monthly returns for August were 68.20 lakh, of which, as on September 25, 37.63 lakh GSTR 3B returns were filed.In July, the GST collection was Rs 92,283 crore from 64.42 per cent of the total taxpayer base.The GST was implemented across the country in place of more than a dozen central and state levies like excise duty, service tax and VAT was implemented from July 1.
