Bhubaneswar: The vigilance wing of East Coast Railway (ECoR), along with Railway Protection Force (RPF), has launched a drive against unauthorised ticket vendors and touts as part of their efforts to make the reservation system more transparent.

An official release issued by the ECoR said the joint team would carry out intensive checks at Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur and Visakhapatnam stations to stop illegal ticket sales.

"The aim is to check possible touting activities and other malpractices... It (the drive) covers all important mass contact areas keeping in view passenger convenience and possible loss of railway revenue," it said.

The vigilance wing officers would keep a check on station premises, especially reservation counters, through CCTVs, the statement said, adding that people using fake IDs to purchase tickets online would also come under scanner. The demand for tickets was at its peak and such checks would be intensified in the coming days in the interest of passengers, it asserted.

The ECoR, in its statement, appealed to the passengers to buy tickets from Passenger Reservation System counters and said massive campaigns have been launched to create awareness about ticketing practices among people.
