On the heels of Prime Minister Modi inaugurating the Rs.615 crore roll-on roll-off ferry service service in Ghogha, Gujarat on Sunday, Congress leader Kapil Sibal has taken a dig at the Election Commission for having failed to announce the dates of the Gujarat elections.

The tenure of the present Gujarat Assembly ends on January 22, 2018.Sibal has tweeted "PM , EC jugalbandi now in the open . Allow me time for jumlas , then announce election dates in Gujarat . First week December : Amit Shah !"

The tweet provides more e-muscle power to fellow congressman P Chidambaram's recent tweets making similar allegations. Chidambaram had recently tweeted "EC will be recalled from its extended holiday after Gujarat government has announced all concessions and freebies;" "EC has authorised PM to announce date of Gujarat elections at his last rally (and kindly keep EC informed)."

Countering these allegations Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani of the BJP claimed that the Congress "is scared of BJP and that is why P Chidambaram is giving such statements. She also objected to the Congress party commenting on the EC which is claimed is not apt in Indian democracy. Prime Minister Modi on Sunday had also taken the opportunity to lash out at the Congress on this "They have failed to counter our development models hence they are now targeting the EC." He further stated that the Congress had no moral rights nor the locus standi to make such comments. Political commentators feel that the EC could announce the dates to the Gujarat elections in the next few days.
