The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) on Friday decided to convene the winter session of Parliament from November 21. The winter session usually starts in the third or fourth week of November.

It came a day after after Election Commission announced the date of the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections and not for the Gujarat. Himachal Pradesh will vote on November 9 and election results will be declared on December 18.

According to media reports, there will be a short session of three weeks as the Budget session is to start just after a month, in the third week of January, for early presentation and passing of the budget alike this year. Gujarat election is crucial for Prime Minister Modi as he and most of his senior ministers will be tied up in the poll campaign, making it difficult for them to give much time to the Parliament session.
