SC agrees to examine plea seeking to regulate app-based taxi services

12 Oct 2017 4:22 PM | General
292 Report

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to examine a plea seeking to regulate regulatory app-based taxi service like Uber, Ola and Redbus accountable for offence committed by drivers.

According to reports, the apex court has asked the Centre to examine the issue and respond to how these services can be regulated.

The hearing has been scheduled for 7 December. In India, the aggregators have argued that they only provide the technology and platform for drivers and passengers to connect. They claim that they ban or suspend drivers from their platform depending on the seriousness of the offence committed, however, they cannot necessarily be held accountable legally.
