Heavy rainfall hits normal life in Hyderabad

Heavy rains lashed Hyderabad on Monday throwing life out of gear in the city. Low-lying areas are inundated with flood waters, severely damaged roads and water logging has led to huge traffic jams.

Residents living near the highly-polluted Pedda Cheruvu, popularly known as Ramanthapur Lake in Hyderabad, woke up in the middle of the night to knee-deep water entering homes and a foul smell all over. With incessant downpour in the city, residents in several colonies abutting Ramanthapur lake said sewage water had entered their homes.

With incessant downpour in the city, residents in several colonies abutting Ramanthapur lake said sewage water had entered their homes.Madhapur recorded a massive 6.1 centimeter (cm) rainfall in a span of just one hour, between 8 and 9 pm on Monday throwing the entire IT corridor out of gear.

Employees of IT companies travelling back home from office got stuck for hours together as traffic came to a standstill with all roads in Gachibowli, Kothaguda, Kondapur, Madhapur and Hitec city, which are already in bad condition suffered due to waterlogging.

According to the weather forecast, an east-west trough is extending towards Andhra Pradesh and is likely to persist for another 24-48 hours. Following which a cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over the coast. Thereafter, it will move towards Telangana resulting in moderate showers across the state. This spell of rains is likely to continue over Telangana for the next 3-4 days.
