DMK meets President Kovind,seeks to order floor test in TN Assembly

The Opposition DMK led an MP team on Thursday and submitted a memorandum to the President Ram Nath Kovind seeking to order for the floor test in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly for proving the majority of the AIADMK government led by Eddapadi K Palanisami.

In its memorandum, which was circulated in the media here, DMK said as 19 MLAs of ruling AIADMK have withdrawn their support it was clear that the Council of ministers headed by the Pananisami has lost its majority in the 234 member House.

Claiming that out of 234 members of legislative assembly, the present AIADMK government has only the support of 113 MLAs including the Speaker, the DMK alleged "but while appointing and administering oath to the deputy chief minister on the advice of the chief minister, the Governor had failed in his constitutional duty to ascertain the fact whether the Chief Minister was heading a majority Government".

"The leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly had brought this situation to the notice of the Governor immediately and wrote a letter on August 22, 2017, requesting him to direct the chief minister to prove his majority in the House", the DMK said adding "but the Governor is yet to act on the said representation".

DMK, in its memorandum, said it was imperative that the Governor is directed by the President to order for the floor test immediately in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to prove the majority of the AIADMK government headed by Palanisamy.
