Six coaches of the Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express derailed between Asangaon and Vashind stations on the Central Railway (CR). Some of the passengers had sustained injuries - however, the exact numbers are not known.

The injuries are minor in nature, eye-witnesses said. The incident took place around 0630 hrs. Top officials of the CR are rushing to the spot.
While the exact cause of the derailment is not yet known, it is suspected that the tracks breached because of the heavy rains in the Kasara Ghats section. The railway route was affected and it would take another four to six hours to rerail the derailed coaches and start the service. The accident is going to have an impact on the morning peak hour local train services in the Kasara-Kalyan section.

The entire Mumbai Metropolitan Region and the Mumbai-Pune-Nashik triangle had been receiving heavy downpour since last Friday. This is the third major incident of derailment in the past two weeks in India.
