Rajiv Bansal new Air India Chairman

Senior IAS officer Rajiv Bansal, Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will be the new Chairman and Managing Director of Air India.

He will hold additional charge as Chairman and Managing Director of the national career. Bansal's appointment comes as incumbent Ashwani Lohani was moved to Railway Board Chairman. The appointment is for three months, sources said. 

Before being moved to Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, he served in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). He was looking after Digital Payments, IT Act, Aadhaar and internet governance in MeitY. 

A civil Engineer by profession having graduated from IIT-Delhi in 1986, he had also served as Joint Secretary in Ministry of Civil Aviation and had been Director in Air India until September 2007. He has earlier been on the Board of NACIL, Alliance Air and GITA.
