With a threefold increase in the threat perception for the 71st Independence Day, a special seven-layer security cover has been arranged in the Capital. Thousands of security personnel, including over 5,000 men from Delhi Police, have been deployed to ensure foolproof security in and around Red Fort, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be

Apart from the multi-layered security cover of over 10,000 personnel, including paramilitary forces, the Delhi Police have been deployed in other high security areas. Sources told MAIL TODAY that 300 CCTV cameras have been installed along with 20 IP cameras and 112 normal cameras. A total of 50 cameras have been installed inside the Red Fort and 40 cameras have been installed for Modi's security.

"This year, the number of CCTV cameras has been increased to extensively cover the route that will be taken by the prime minister and other dignitaries to reach the fort," a senior officer said. The officer said PM's route is covered with 500 CCTV cameras and an additional SPG (Special Protection Group) cover supported by personnel and other resources from the intelligence agencies.

A special team of National Security Guard (NSG) snipers and commandos will also be formed in the inner layer of the security cordon. Anti-aircraft guns will be deployed and a no-fly zone will be put in place over the Red Fort.

A heightened security cover has also been put in place around Rajghat, where Modi will lay a wreath at Mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi. A centralised control room has been set up and quick reaction teams, bomb squads and dog squads are also being deployed at sensitive points. The police will also use five drones in Central Delhi and helicopters will be used to patrol the entire route. Meanwhile, teams from the Special Cell and local police have been screening suspects. Checks are being carried out to verify occupants in the city hotels.
