Pushpa Mitra Bhargava (88) is the founder director of the CSIR Center for Secular Molecular Biology.
Bhargava, who suffered severe illness for several days, died yesterday evening.
PM Bhargava was the foremost scientist in the field of biotechnology in the 1970s. He played a key role in setting up a separate department for biotechnology.

Born in Ajmer, Rajasthan, he served as vice-president of the National Knowledge Commission during 2005-07. The Padma awards were returned in 2015 against intolerance.
