PM Modi announces Rs 2,000 crore assistance for Assam flood

Guwahati : Prime Minister Narendra Modi n Tuesday took stock of worsening floods, which have killed 84 people so far in Assam and other North Eastern States. PM Modi announced Rs 2,000 crore assistance.

The Prime Minister will also take an aerial survey and is likely to meet flood victims. He also chaired a series of high-level meetings to review the flood situation and the relief operations in the North Eastern States, particularly in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh,Mizoram,Nagaland and Manipur, the PMO said.

Earlier, Modi arrived at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, was received by Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Later, the PM will address a meeting of ruling Chief Ministers and senior officials from these states were present at the meetings.

BJP and its alliance partners- the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodo Peoples' Front. The Centre had on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 each for those injured in Assam floods. At least 130 lives have been lost and more than 25 lakh people have been hit by floods in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and Mizoram between April and July.
