PM Modi to review damage caused by flood in Assam

Guwahati : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the damage caused by recent floods in Assam during his visit to the state today.

The prime minister, who arrived at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here, was received by Governor Banwarilal Purohit and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The prime minister then drove to the nearby Assam Administrative Staff College where he is scheduled to hold three meetings, before returning to New Delhi in the afternoon.He was received at the Staff College by the chief minister, his cabinet colleagues and senior state government officials.

In the first meeting with the chief minister, his cabinet colleagues and senior state government officials, the prime minister would review the flood situation and infrastructural damage, official sources said.

The prime minister would address a meeting of ruling BJP and its alliance partners- the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodo Peoples' Front. Modi would also hold a meeting with Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam.

State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said yesterday that the prime minister's visit was mainly aimed at finding a permanent solution to the flood problem in Assam.
