Google has launched SOS alerts,a new set of features found in Google Search and Maps to quickly help understand what is going on and what to do in the event of a crisis.

In the event of a crisis, you may see an SOS Alert at the top of search results when searching for the incident or location. The page will also show maps, top stories, and when available authoritative local information such as emergency phone numbers, websites, and translations of useful phrases.

This also depends on how close you are to the affected area which will also mean you get a notification on your mobile device which directs you to this information.

For users outside of the affected area, they may still be in need of information about the crisis. Hence, searches for relevant terms (like name of event or location) will show an SOS alert which provides timely summary of the situation with the addition of donation opportunities.

Google Maps on mobile are also capable of showing SOS Alerts. In Maps, you will see a specific icon on the map and a tappable card with more information about the crisis, such as helpful phone numbers and websites. The map will also include real-time updates, like road closures and traffic and transit updates.

Furthermore, in addition to SOS Alerts and other crisis response features  there is also Google Person finder, Google Crisis Map, and Google Public Alerts.
