Cambridge & MSSRF ties-up to focus on food security in India

In a bid to carry out major research activities in the country, University of Cambridge has tied-up with M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) to focus on food security in India.

The project 'Transforming India's Green Revolution by Research and Empowerment for Sustainable Food Supplies' (TIGR2ESS) is part of the Global Challenges Research Fund, MSSRF sources here said on Tuesday. 

Researchers from the UK and India will work to build upon research knowledge in the UK to address challenges in developing countries.

The TIGR2ESS programme will assess options and support basic research programmes while providing advice to local communities. There will be academic exchanges, mentoring and career development for scientists from both countries.

Links with government ministries in India with industrial connections built into the programme, aim to turn recommendations into reality.

There are several institutional partners in India including the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and the Punjab Agricultural University, as part of this collaboration. The research project begins in October 2017.
