Tamil Nadu MLAs gave themselves a 100% salary hike. Salary of MLAs in Tamil Nadu has been raised to Rs 1.05 lakh from present Rs 55,000, in addition, to hike on other allowances.

Every MLA's pension has been revised from 12,000 to 20,000. MLA constituency fund has also been increased from Rs 2 crore to Rs 2.5 crore. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy in the state assembly on Wednesday.The announcement comes at a time when farmers in the state have been demanding a loan waiver owing.

Farmers have been protesting in New Delhi, Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu seeking help from the state and the centre to aide farmers marred by successive droughts. Farmers in the state continue to be a worried lot since Monsoon has been insufficient so far this year as well.

Tamil Nadu MLAs gave themselves a hike on the day MPs raised the issue in Rajya Sabha. Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agrawal sought salary hike for Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha and stated that their salaries were much lesser than their secretaries'.
