Maharashtra govt. announces loan waiver of Rs 34,000 crore

Maharashtra government decided loan waiver of Rs 34,000 crore for farmers- the biggest in the country, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday after it revised the norms and limits.

From the earlier Rs one lakh waiver, the government revised it to Rs 1.5 lakh per farmer, Fadnavis announced after an high-level meeting held at Mantalaya, the state secretariat here.

The scheme would be known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Krishi Samman Yojana.Over the last few days, the government held consultations with Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and state Congress chief Ashok Chavan.

As many as 89 lakh farmers would be benefitted. The overdue date would be 30 June 2016. Those who are Income Tax payees are not eligible for the scheme. "This is the biggest loan waiver scheme of the country," Fadnavis claimed.
