The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to declare the results, further overruling the Madras High Court interim order restraining the publication of results of NEET 2017 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses.

The apex court further directed the authorities to proceed with the declaration of result and subsequent admission as per schedule fixed by it earlier. It, however, said declaration of result, subsequent counselling and admission will be subject to its decision on the matter pending before it.

Meanwhile, the high courts are requested not to entertain any petitions on matters relating to NEET examination 2017.

Madras High Court had granted an interim stay on the NEET result publication, on a batch of petitions alleging that a uniform question paper was not given during the examination.

Petitioners also claimed that different sets of question paper had been used at various places despite the announcement of a common syllabus.

They also claimed that the question papers were different for those who opted English and Tamil, adding that the Tamil paper was easier.

Based on the apex court's orders, CBSE had conducted the examination in English, along with Hindi and some other vernacular languages.

As many as nine lakh students took NEET in English, one and half lakh in Hindi and another one lakh in other vernacular languages.

Another PIL was also filed in the apex court seeking direction to conduct NEET examination again alleging that papers were leaked in Bihar and other states.
