Actor Nagarjuna and filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma have reunited after two decades for upcoming Telugu action flick Officer. Nagarjuna plays a fearless police officer in the film, which is gearing for release next month. On Thursday, Varma revealed that Nag’s character is inspired from the life story of IPS officer KM Prasanna.

While many reports suggested that the film is loosely based on Liam Neeson starrer Taken, Varma finally shed some light, putting rumours to rest. Revealing the inspiration behind making Officer, Varma wrote on Twitter: “The Story of Officer is based upon true life IPS officer K M Prasanna from Karnataka, who was appointed as the chief of a SIT (Special Investigation Team) to investigate a highly reputed cop in Mumbai. It’s the details that IPS officer K M Prasanna personally told me in 2010 that finally became the story of Officer. Nagarjuna is playing Mr Prasanna, who at present is the Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Mumbai.”

Varma went on to add that Prasanna shares an uncanny resemblance to Nagarjuna. “Comparing my personal interactions with both, I observed that they share a very similar demeanor and strength of mind, which I tried to capture in Officer.” During the launch of the project last November, Varma said in a statement: “I am extremely excited that I am doing a film with Nagarjuna after nearly 25 years but contrary to some uninformed media speculations, this new film is nothing to do with ‘Shiva’, neither in character nor in story content,” Varma had posted on his Facebook page. Predominantly shot in Mumbai, the film also stars Myra Sareen in a crucial role. The first look poster, which was released not long ago, featured an angry looking Nagarjuna flashing a gun. According to the industry grapevine, the film might have a simultaneous release in Hindi.
