Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and ace badminton player Saina Nehwal have been threatened by Maoists in Chhattisgarh for extending financial help to families of 12 CRPF jawans who were killed in a Maoist ambush near south Bastar on March 16.

In a pamphlet issued by the CPI (Maoist) Bastar south sub-zonal bureau, the two have been threatened besides urging other celebrities to stand with the poor and the revolution.

“We condemn the financial assistance given to the families of CRPF jawans killed in PLGA attacks. We appeal to famous figures, film actors, sportspersons and celebrities to stand with the revolution and poor people. Stand against police atrocities and human rights violations,” it read. Akshay Kumar and Saina Nehwal had promised to provide Rs 9 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively to each family.

“My heart goes out to our soldiers who put their lives at risk to keep us safe. I can’t bring those soldiers back who lost their lives in Chhattisgarh but in my small way I want to donate this six lakhs for those families” .

On the other hand, this wasn’t the first time that Akshay has been part of such acts and he has voiced his opinion on online portals to help families of the deceased soldiers earlier too.

The pamphlet also criticised the role of gau rakshaks, alleging that they had been killing the poor Dalits and Muslims under the pretext of protecting cows. There were another 25 CRPF personnel who were killed in a different attack in Sukma, a week after the first ambush.
